Totally depends on what software you want to run and expected number of users. Also does it have to be OSX?
Mac Pro isn't an ideal full time server since you are spending money on video card, Bluetooth, I/O ports, airport, etc.

No. It's not related to any dislike between Apple and Oracle. I believe it was timed purposely to keep Java applications out of the new Mac App Store.
Don't forget the IcedTea project. This is related to OpenJDK, and already has a working Mac implementation.
My take on the announcement is that Apple is ensuring that OSX will be more open to installation of such software and not requiring Apple's developers to reimplement versions of Java as they come out. I suspect Apple wants to use their development staff for Apple-specific software.
I don't think the Mac App Store has any relevance to the discussion.
Oracle's announcements at the JavaOne 2010 meeting seems to promise bringing Java as a platform back from the dead -- something Sun was having problems doing. The Oracle promise of rapid progress of the Java platform would make it difficult/expensive for Apple to keep up and still be a viable platform for Java development.
I think Jobs' announcement is a positive sign.

You're right in a way. You can use the Linksys and extend via ethernet to the AP express to extend it. OR... you can buy 2 APEs and have one be the WIFI.. and then the 2nd one would just extend from the 1st one. It's super easy to setup with the software on the mac!

FANTASTIC. I don't know why it didn't occur to me to go the NAS route. Thanks all, I'll check out Synology and Drobo... seems like the best way to go!

Chaos struck London Underground's Northern Line at the start of this morning's rush when a driverless train broke away from the engine towing it and headed off into the tunnels under Camden towards the centre of the city. At 6:44am the engineering train broke its coupling near Archway station and rolled back down the hill towards oncoming passenger trains. Thanks to the Northern Line having multiple routes through the city control room staff quickly diverted passenger trains safely onto the line's Bank branch whilst the runaway was left to come to a rest at Warren Street station on the Charing Cross part of the network.

I thought that, at some point when AE and BT became standard features, there stopped being a "card" that was removable from the computer.... I don't think current iBooks or PBs even *have* externally accessible wireless cards. But I could be wrong about that.

Last year, Engadget ran a (mostly) correct rumor about the 2G ATV.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/28/the-next-apple-tv-revealed-cloud-storage-and-iphone-os-on-tap/
In it, was this little nugget:
"For those still interested in keeping their content close, there will be an option to utilize a Time Capsule as an external storage component, but the main course will be all about streaming."
I've been waiting ever since for some sort of Time Capsule / iTunes Server.

Just from people that have it installed, are the rumours from TechCrunch true regarding it being a golden master?
It seems like Apple have a long way to go regarding what they've posted in known issues, so how can it be a golden master already?

The fact that the artifacts have appeared in the screenshot is a good indication that the LCD is not at fault. It's most certainly a defective GPU. Not much that can be done with it now, ignoring the fact that logic boards are expensive, i'd doubt that Apple would even stock parts for them anymore.

I've never cut w/iMovie or FCE and I've never captured using the "scene" or "start/stop" detection that it seems like every iMovie user does. But a short trip the FCE discussion forum on Apple.com taught me this:
FCE will mark the start/stop points in the tape after you capture it where as iMovie does it while you are capturing. So, Freg3000, capture 10 or 15 minutes of footage from the camera and then drop that clip onto the timeline. Then go to Mark-->DV Start/Stop Detection and FCE will mark each start/stop in the clip. Then just create sub-clips and place those sub-clips into whatever bins you have created in the browser.

I'm getting a little anxious for iWork '07. Hopefully we'll finally get a spreadsheet program.
Me too. I really hope Apple kicks iWork up a notch and makes it commercial grade in terms of speed and lack of bugs, and adds in the missing features.
iWork has the potential to be brilliant. I'd love to dump MS Office once and for all. I'm there with Keynote, and with a very, very solid upgrade with Pages, I'll be able to dump Word.

Paolo,
Thank you for your reply. I did everything you suggested-again and even wrote it all down so I could try permutations. Bottom line, it will recognize the guitar input but not a microphone n:confused:or my two keyboards. I have the unit with me today ready to return to B&H. appreciate your help!

I would like to see a Duel drive raid TC with user replaceable drives and a better cooling solution . So far I have had one fail between 8 and 14 months old since they launched , and it's sat on a low shelf in an open to air on all sides unit PSU failure every time, capacitors burst.
They are very very poor design from a heat dissipation standpoint . I'd prefer a next gen one to go with a MagSafe replaceable PSU

It is a viewer for PDF and such. Also allows you to take screen shots. Those are the two features I use most in Preview.
How does Preview take screenshots?

I hope this is standard on ios5. It is pretty rediculous for the data to be there and yet the ipad doesnt use it
if they do include that feature in ios5, i'm sure they'll require an ipad 3 to be able to use it.

iMacs have never had HDMI ports.
you just need the right adapter: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5311&seq=1&format=2
Thank you the bottom of the page says Thunderbolt compatible also but doesn't say how.

Unlikely for replacement, but take it into an apple store and see what they can do for you.
