I suppose those who do not want to pay for the new iPod touch apps also will not want to pay for OS X 10.6 when it comes out, or iWork and iLife '09. Those apps were not included with the product when it shipped, and they bought the product knowing that such apps were not included. These are just additional apps whose development costs Apple has to defray in some way, just as it charges for OS X and other software upgrades.

And nobody is forcing you to buy them if you don't think it's worth your $20.

I also suspect that those who purchased an iPod Touch in the last 2 weeks will likely be able to get the upgrade for a nominal fee.

I don't know where this assertion that AMD are rubbish comes from. The integrated memory controller technology that AMD have currently is beter than Intels offering (for the moment).

That said, they'd be daft to go with AMD. It's nice that they have this stick to poke Intel with though.

What a bunch of losers. That guy probably worked really hard on his presentation, and to have it screwed up by a bunch of wannabe-journalists trying to act "cool" for their "blog" is ridiculous. If I were in charge of any of these types of events I'd show these guys the door, permanently. People who think it was funny obviously haven't been on the presenter side of things before.

You can't charge your batteries that way either, at least nowhere near full. ;)

Regenerative braking is a small supplement at best. Yes, every bit helps, but currently the best diesel cars meet or exceed hybrid fuel economy and their carbon footprint is arguably no worse.

My opinion is that parallel hybrids are a technological dead end in the long term. Series hybrids might be part of the long term plan for stretching our fossil fuels but even those are not a -solution- to the problem. The solution is going to be either (in order of probability) biodiesel, hydrogen-powered cars or full electrics backed by a totally renewable power generation infrastructure.]
I would argue that hybrids are a long term solution.More so plug in hybrids I think are a longer term solution. It allows people to charge for their daily stuff at home. Then for longer trips you have an on board generator of some type to continue to charge the batteries.

So if that best diseal was a hybrid it would have even a longer range and better gas mileage.

iTV has already been announced, of course they'll demo it.
Video iPod... possible. I think "true video iPod" is a misnomer, there already are video iPods, it just might get better over time.
No Apple Phone, for obvious reasons. The Apple Phone will only appear if they can't persuade the rest of the market to license iTunes, or if they're totally, completely, and utterly stupid.
    iLife/iWork - well, of course!
    More Leopard Features - ditto.
More Movie Studios - hard to believe that wouldn't be the case.
Steve Jobs retiring - possible, but why would it be announced at this MacWorld as opposed to any other time?

Don't you mean "Oh yay, another rip off of Steam, XBLA store, Impulse, Gamersgate, PSN, WiiWare or [insert any of the other app download stores that existed years before any of Apple's download stores]."

    Hmm?

How quickly they forget, or most likely never knew. Some here think that Apple invented the wheel. :D

Back on topic, I hope that Microsoft listens to their users and lets everyone who want to download the beta and give their feedback. It seems to have worked well for W7.

Minimum wages = unemployment, lower growth
child labor laws = limits free will and opportunities for youngsters
max hours per week = limits free will, opportunity for higher personal revenue
workplace safety = bureaucracy, red tape, lower growth

Holy effin' Shizzle batman! You don't believe this. Come on. Fo' reals? I mean really...come on. I know it, and you know it...you're trolling. There is no way you actually believe that stuff.

Minimum wages = employer must pay at the very least a human wage...not a slave wage. If the employer cannot afford to pay people fairly, their business should fail. Isn't that what the free market is all about? You produce or you fail?

Child Labor Laws = really??? Limits free will?? Opportunities for youngsters? Do you really think that if child labor laws were done away with in this country that some warehouse wouldn't have the 6-year-old kid of some nearly-homeless family out running a meat slicer for $4 a day? Do you REALLY think that kind of thing wouldn't happen? And that something like that is an opportunity for that 6-year-old? You are truly a piece of work. Oh right, I keep forgetting...you're a troll.

Max hours per week does not limit free will. An employer is certainly allowed to let an employee work 100 hours a week if they so want to. I know because I've done it on many occasions. I had a 140-hour week a while back. It's perfectly legal. But you have to PAY OVERTIME. If you want to exploit your workers, you pay them for it. You have the free will to work them overtime, they have the free will to accept that overtime, and then you pay them for it. Don't like it, don't do it...free will, baby.

Workplace safety should not be required? Bwaahahaha. Now, I most certainly do not follow most safety rules in my line of work, because a lot of them are pretty silly. But to do away with required safety procedures for many occupations is just an amazing concept. That you actually believe that employers will willingly pay more if they are not required to in order to keep their employees safe is one of the more laughable things ever.

Don't be naive. The goals are the same, more wealth, health, prosperity, and safety for all. Conservatives simply disagree with your methods. They realize that a hand-out is NEVER the same as a hand-up, and that wealth earned is not generally earned at the expense of others, but rather to their benefit.

So being paid overtime for working crazy hours is a HAND OUT? Really?

Cutting wages and pay requirements and removing safety requirements means more wealth and safety for ALL? OK. Hold on, let me comprehend that. Wait, I can't because it's the stupidest thing ever uttered.

Yes. it has been decided. He's a <censored>swell guy</censored>. There is no one who actually thinks like this.

*edit - while I meant what I said, it's not worth getting banned over.

I see everyone has been wondering about content should Apple offer movie downloads via iTunes. How coincidental is it that Lionsgate made a statement recently about iTunes offering movie downloads in the near future. Lionsgate also has one of the largest film libraries and has been rumored as a potential takeover in recent months as well.

Dude. I haven't once suggested banning guns.

These days I'd be satisfied with a hint of awareness.

I was under the impression you had. Here you gave me that impression:

It's impossible to enforce a gun ban when all you have to do is drive to the next town to buy them.

If we were to implement restrictions it would have to be nation-wide, or else it would be too easily thwarted.

Fair enough. It took your statement as referring to bans.

Frankly awareness, or more specifically education, is the only solution. Gun owners need more education, particularly those who arm themselves for home defense or concealed carry. If citizens are expected to demonstrate proficiency in driving a car before being allowed on the road - and further proficiency for special kinds of driving (such as racing licenses, commercial licenses, limousine drivers, police driving training etc etc), then gun owners should get considerably more training in self-defense with firearms. Most hunters agree that mandatory hunter-safety classes are a good idea. If that is the case, self-defense training is even more necessary.

Furthermore, the public at large needs to be more educated about laws, regulations and firearms themselves. Fear of firearms can be healthy. Willfull ignorance towards them, not so much.

Exactly. I have never understood why my more liberal friends want to ban anything. Education is the key to solving the vast majority of our problems, not ignorance or fear. I grew up around guns all my life and had fun with them. I also loved archery.

After starting to play hockey and having skydived for three years, the one thing I've finally learned that is the most helpful thing in life is this- do things that scare you. Learn about them. You'll be better off, and you'll grow immensely as a person. Those things will also bring incredible people into your life.

Go to a firing range and learn about guns, citizenzen- even if it scares and repulses you. Trust me, you'll be all the better for it, and you might learn something about yourself you never knew was there. After all, knowledge is power.

...One of the main promotional points of Android as its popularity has soared has been the unregulated nature of the app marketplaces for the platform. As opposed to Apple's belief that customers are better served by a marketplace in which Apple serves as the gatekeeper to ensure that apps meet certain standards, Android has been much more of a free-for-all with developers free to release nearly any type of application for use on compatible devices....
Users can of course work around carrier restrictions with methods known as "sideloading" that allow users to install apps through unapproved sources, but most casual users are undoubtedly sticking to mainstream, authorized marketplaces such as the Android Market for their needs.

    That's funny...

I'd still argue that communism isn't really open because it's a top down government, but in theory it is more open than it is in reality.
In Texas, people are so ignorant about different forms of government, I forget that other people are more educated.
I was referring to things that work in theory and not in practice. Now that you have me going about it though, communism is, in theory, open and in practice, not open.

Thanks. However, that site doesn't seem to update its information. Some of it dates back at least five years.

For example, I looked around my area, and most of the well known dead zones marked on the map were resolved a few years ago with new towers.

The site does update the information. Zoom in and click on the "deadspots" The date reported is shown. I clicked on 25 for Verizon and 25 for AT&T they were all reported in 2008 or 2009.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender it's all a bit grey there....

Having been a transgender individual in a potentially life threatening situation a couple of times, generally I informed them of my medical history like any sane patient would.

You're focusing on selective binary aspects of sex in a topic relating to transgender people, do you not think that this could be seen as somewhat offensive and inappropriate?

As I said, I am what I am, I'm fine with that, I just don't appreciate you "helpfully" pointing out that there are certain aspects of sex-differentiation you can't erase.

That does not mean you're not being a douchebag when you directly or indirectly call a transsexual woman a man or male, even citing your oversimplified ideas of sex and gender. It propagates a culture that sees us in terms of our troubled history rather than who we are and in some cases will be.

Does that make things clear for you? I'm not trying to be confrontational for the sake of it.

I am missing the argument here.... I never meant to be seen as defending "3gsiphone" or whatever that guys name is.... Because his words WERE rude and innapropriate and discriminatory. Damn right they were.

Folks, I think you are misinterpreting what the OSx86 project is doing (at least in this case)...

The OSx86 project is taking the Darwin and XNU source that Apple releases and making them so they can run on any x86 hardware. Basically, they are bringing back the functionality that Darwin and XNU had BEFORE Apple ported OSX to Intel, as the x86 versions of Darwin used to run on any x86 hardware until Apple started including a lot of EFI-specific commands (as well as some other things). If you download and compile the OSx86 source, you won't be able to get a full-fledged OSX user experience, because they have not circumvented Apple's TPM protections for the GUI. In order to get Aqua, you need to have the Aqua resource files (which you'd have to get from a OSX install CD), and you'd have to get the TPM keys, which would be illegal.

Also remember, Darwin and XNU does NOT EQUAL the full OSX user experience. Darwin/XNU is just a command-line operating system, as that is the only part that is open-source.

Oh no, we get what they are doing (from the blog at OSx86):

"I had to remove a key which you need to reinsert if you want to run it GUI, due to legal issues. I called it the "magicpoem" maybe you got the point now. The hex for it is around so don't mail me about it, I want spread anything illegal.

I hope Steve, you enjoy this release, read my poem and think about it. The community was victorius again. Thanks to everyone who supported me and/or worked this out with me. Special thanks go to (in no special order):"

The whole point of them "running the rat-race for 2 days" was to make the kernel work with the express intent of running the Aqua GUI.

How much plainer does it need to be, their whole intent is to enable people to steal the GUI and enjoy the Apple OS X experience for free.

The whole OSx86 project is a warez project hiding behind OSS. It just re-enforces the negative OSS image.

edit: They even have screenshots of Aqua running on an unknown Pentium 4 processor. If that's not promoting warez, what is it? And you know where this path eventually leads to? WGA!! I rue the day when Apple has to try and lock down OSX like MS is forced to attempt with Vista!

Wait, what, a CD? Do you come from the 90s? Why do you need to put it on a CD? Do you even know how this works? Do you know how heavy a laptop is compared to an iPad 2? Do you know how much it sucks to "just hand over" a laptop?

I didn't use the CD. The poster said they got the CD from the hospital with the scans on it, and then reviewed the images on the iPad.

And here lies the problem, when you REALLY need to do something, you need to have the flexibility to handle things that are thrown at you.
