Well what will you use it for, what apps will you run? The ibook is not slow, the only time it will be slow is for running some pro apps such as FCP. Also you might want to consider the 12" ibook since the 14 and 12 inch have the same resolution.
Well, I'll be using it for notetaking, the occasional graphic work and quite possibly some numbercrunching come next semester... We'll be doing statistics :eek:
Basically, you could say that what I need is an advanced typewriter, but then again, I imagine that once I get to know the machine, I'll be wanting it to do more stuff? Never had a portable before....

I have upgrade my iBook OS, from OS922 to 10.3.8.
(iBook G3 800 MHz, 384 Mb SDRAM, HD 40Gb, ADSL256)
Before I erased all data on my hard disk to zero. Clean installation also.
After that, as a result, I have a corrupted display and a freezed iBook!
(see attached...)
BUT, if I boot the iBook without extensions, (safe boot),
it's ok....
I have no ideas how to solve this bug. I tried to re install twice, no more success... I run Disk Utility, TechToolsPro, DiskWarrior, nothing special...
I think to understand a System log could help.
What does <The "HasShadow" window property is obsolete> mean?
How, and where learn to use those system log?
I usually manage well my troobleshootings, but I'm not at all experienced in Unix, BSD, and System log.

To many uncertainties ... now the speed is good, so is the heat and fan noise ... best we've ever seen on the Airs.

For sale is my backup 8GB iPhone. It is currently unlocked for use with any GSM carrier. As you can see from the pics, it has a crack up top and a small one on the bottom right corner. This is purely cosmetic and has no affect on the phone whatsoever. Touch sensitivity works fine anywhere on the screen as well as the phone feature/speakers. This iPhone is perfectly functioning!

I figured it out. I did have everything figured out -- but when I was first setting up the server, I set up our test domain, (church).net to a catchall -- in server admin there was an alias set to *
I deleted the alias, set GoDaddy (which I highly despise) to point to our server, and Ta Da! Works fine.
Moral of the story. Don't use catchalls.

Dude, it's apple. you need to b*tch like anything to them to get it fixed. Ask to be transferred to second tier, yell down the phone, whatever it takes... You just have to be really $#!++y with them and then they'll co-operate. that's the only way i could get my base station replaced. trust me, i tried the nice approach, doesn't work, you've just got to be pissed off enough to make them want to fix the problem so they don't have to hear about it any more.

I started doing it because I have my iMac on all the time...actually, I started folding on my PowerBook G4 running at 667 MHz...not a lot of productivity, but it helped.
I'm excited to get my MacBook Pro (probably this week) and start on it...although the F@H website does not have an Intel version yet.

I'm getting a little anxious for iWork '07. Hopefully we'll finally get a spreadsheet program.
Me too. I really hope Apple kicks iWork up a notch and makes it commercial grade in terms of speed and lack of bugs, and adds in the missing features.
iWork has the potential to be brilliant. I'd love to dump MS Office once and for all. I'm there with Keynote, and with a very, very solid upgrade with Pages, I'll be able to dump Word.

thats a absolute bargain i take 10 for that price , payed �1470 for mine ,ok mine was complete in original box as shipped from apple in May 1998 to the owner in germany and still in pristine as new condition like it left the factory , apart from i also bought a g3 upgrade card from sonnet for it and a 50gb harddrive , mates call me insane why i spend that much money on a obsolete old piece of computer rather then getting a brandnew mac ..but i simply love the pre intel Mac's and they do what i buy them for
and honestly it looks better then a iMac 27" and has way better sound and is rarer :p

What is a good app for a newbie to create a webpage? I want something simple and easy, free would be a plus. I also have a simple knowledge of html.
After a lot of deciding, I bought and am now using Dreamweaver. It isn't free though. If you qualify for a student/faculty discount it is $99. I am using the book Dreamweaver MX 2004: the Missing Manual (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0596006314/qid=1127826156/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-6951142-5757641?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)
which is helping me a lot. I love the tutorials which you can download from the books website.

Try using passive mode. Issue "pasv" or "passive" in the command-line or find this option in your GUI clients.

In all seriousness though, I could see myself buying something a bit similar to this if it were dirt cheap and had the option of a kind of blackout cloth around it. Not for what you might imagine although I would use it in bed. The girlfriend goes to bed hours before I do. I often stay up much later or I might listen to an audiobook and sometimes I like to watch tv shows. It'd be nicer being able to do that in the bedroom. She hates any form of lights in the bedroom so it would need to be able to black out the rest of the world. I don't care how stupid I look if its in the dark after all.

Fairly annoying really. In all my years visiting rumour sites, I've never got my hopes up about something only to learn that it was a fabrication by a singular person in the industry
